Movies at the Museum – The Gilded Lily
April 17 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Enjoy the classic film The Gilded Lily outside, under the stars on the museum’s lawn. Released in 1934, this romantic comedy stars Claudette Colbert as Marilyn David, a secretary who falls in love with a British aristocrat-in-disguise Charles Granville (Ray Milland), to the dismay of her best friend Pete (Fred MacMurray) who secretly pines for her. The courtship of Marilyn and Charles includes exploring the sights on Coney Island. After mistaken identities, a secret engagement, and a brief career as a nightclub performer, Marilyn must choose between the two men.
All attendees are asked to provide their own chairs for this outdoor event.
The Collier Museum at Government Center is pleased to host Coney Island: Visions of an American Dreamland, on display April 6–May 25, 2021. Adapted from an exhibit at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, this traveling exhibition from NEH on the Road explores images and history of America’s playground.
