Zoom Lecture: Golden Age of Tourism in Postwar Florida
April 8 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Dr. Tracy Revels, author of Sunshine Paradise: A History of Florida Tourism, will be joining us via Zoom to discuss the golden age of tourism in Florida after World War II. During the period from 1947 to the early 1970s, small amusement parks and exotic roadside attractions cropped up all over the state. Much like the amusements at Coney Island, these attractions catered to visitors seeking a break from city life and new pleasures that hadn’t been available during the Great Depression and World War II. The lecture will be hosted on Zoom and live-streamed to the Collier County Museums’ Facebook page.
The Collier Museum at Government Center is pleased to host Coney Island: Visions of an American Dreamland, on display April 6–May 25, 2021. Adapted from an exhibit at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, this traveling exhibition from NEH on the Road explores images and history of America’s playground.
