Movie Night: Shark River
September 14, 2018 @5:00 pm-8:00 pm
Join us for a showing of “Shark River” starring Steve Cochran as the next installment of our Mid-Month Summer Movie Nights.
Filmed entirely in the Everglades in 1953 in the area known as “Hole In The Wall”, the film tells an overly-dramatic story of Civil War veterans on the run from the law – lost in the swamp, they battle gators, snakes, bugs and the Seminole Tribe whose land they have invaded. Their salvation comes in the form of a swamp angel known as the “Queen of the Everglades” who helps them escape. Campy action, corny romance, some insulting stereotypes, and lots of local scenery promise to make this a fun event with a B-Movie that might just be bad enough to be good.
Come early for a presentation about some of the other movies filmed in the area like Distant Drums, Seminole, Stanley and Yellowneck, and how they perpetuated the myth of Native Americans as hostile and savage people.
