Opening Celebration: “A Heart for Alligators – a retrospective of the art of Jürg ‘George’ Furrer
November 11, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Join us for a FREE opening celebration for the exhibit "A Heart for Alligators - a retrospective of the art of Jürg ‘George’ Furrer," on display in the newly-renovated George Rogers Art Studio at Collier Museum at Government Center. This exhibit was originally scheduled to open at Museum of the Everglades, but the Museum remains closed due to damages sustained during Hurricane Irma.
“This exhibit is particularly timely in the context of Everglades City’s current struggle to recover from the devastation of Hurricane Irma. George Furrer was instrumental in the effort to restore the historic City Hall following its damage by Hurricane Wilma in 2005 and remained a staunch proponent of historic preservation and restoration in the area. Many of the places he captured in the artwork on display were badly damaged or completely destroyed by the recent storm. This exhibit, which began as a celebration of George’s work, has become a tribute to the region’s most colorful locations – many of them now lost forever,” said Museum of the Everglades Manager Thomas Lockyear.
Take a first look at this incredible display of George Furrer's works based on his real-life experiences as a visitor to Everglades City.
This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Museum of the Everglades. Light refreshments will be served.
