We’re going “back to school” a little differently at the 2023 Summer Homeschool Day! Join us at Collier Museum at Government Center for a taste of what schooling was like in the pioneer days of southwest Florida. With age-appropriate activities for preschool, elementary, middle, and high school groups, everyone will get to have a meaningful “one room schoolhouse” experience. Practice your elocution, arithmetic, handwriting, spelling, and geography — with your own slate! Forget your bento box lunches, pack your own pioneer-era lunch in a knapsack with our “pioneer kid lunch bar” and learn the food science behind these old school lunches. Don’t forget recess, complete with classic games that any pioneer child could enjoy with the few resources at hand. . This is a drop-in style event.
While RSVP is not required, it is encouraged to ensure enough supplies for students. Call our Curator of Education at 239-252-8242 or use the form below.
Three times a year, Collier County Museums hosts a day where homeschoolers of all ages will be able to come for free educational programming geared toward their specific age groups. We will have preschool, elementary, and middle/early high school appropriate activities based on that Homeschool Day’s theme. With a focus on combining history and STEM (we like to call it SHTEM!), Collier County Museums aims to provide your homeschooler with a holistic approach to learning about our region’s history. Homeschool Days will cycle through our five museums, so your family has an opportunity to get to know all of them!
Due to an unprecedented response to our program, we have closed RSVPs slightly early to ensure we can safely accommodate everyone who has signed up. Thank you for your understanding!
