Victory Rails: US Railroads in WWII

Join Stephanie Long, Manager of the Collier Museum at Government Center, for an exploration of the role railroads played during World War II. During the war, railroads in the United States were tasked with the enormous job of getting the nation ready to fight and keeping the military supplied with troops and equipment throughout the war. From 1941–1945, US railroads moved record numbers of people and freight while faced with major shortages in manpower and train equipment. This talk will explore the magnitude of the task, the challenges that the railroads faced, and how they managed to meet the needs of a nation at war.
