Miccosukee Day & Opening Reception for Sharing the Path

October 13 | 11:00 am 4:00 pm

On October 9th, 2023, the City of Miami celebrated their first ever Miccosukee Day – honoring the Tribe’s rich cultural heritage and contributions. With this event, also taking place on the nationally celebrated holiday of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we hope to carry that new tradition across the Everglades to celebrate the opening of a new collaborative exhibit cementing our continuing partnership with the Miccosukee Tribe. In light of the greater Everglades community’s long history of working together with and welcoming the region’s native residents, it seems only fitting.

There will be a brief opening ceremony at 11am with statements by individuals featured in or who otherwise contributed to the exhibit as well as other guests and dignitaries, followed by a light lunch that will include traditional Indian fry bread and more – all provided courtesy of Friends of Museum of the Everglades.

Join us as we respectfully recognize the continuing contributions of the Miccosukee and Seminole people to the preservation of the Everglades, acknowledge their historical presence in our region and express gratitude for the knowledge and wisdom they have shared with us. Enjoy and engage with our new exhibit and explore the possibilities for a better future offered by integrating traditional indigenous knowledge.
